Vickie Wiese

In August of 1982 Dr. Wiese achieved a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Psychology from University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. (Honors: Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, PSI CHI).

In December, 1984 she successfully completed her Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois.

And in August, 1988 she successfully completed her Doctorate in Philosophy – Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee with minors in Cross Cultural Psychology and Learning.

She completed her Internship August, 1987 – August, 1988 at the Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (ZVAMC) with major rotations in neuropsychology, substance abuse and dependence, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She also completed training at The Vet Center of Milwaukee with veterans and their families She also worked with firefighters and police officers to prevent the development of PTSD.

Dr. Wiese has worked as a Psychologist since 1988. Her first position was with the Vet Center from August, 1988 – October, 1988. From October, 1988 – March, 1990 she held the position of Staff Psychologist at the Washington County Mental Health Center completing a postdoctoral training in child, adolescent, and family assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

In March of 1990 Dr. Wiese received a unique and challenging opportunity to design, implement and assess the effectiveness of a new residential unit at the ZVAMC – The Posttraumatic Stress Disorder/Substance Use Unit (PSU). The unit received wonderful reviews and in fact, during one of its first national effectiveness tests ranked 3rd of all VA PTSD programs in the nation in the successful treatment of PTSD.

In her years at the VA Dr. Wiese also served as a Crisis Intervention Team Manager, on the Patient Education Committee, in the Women’s’ Trauma Treatment Outpatient Program, on the Institutional Review Board, and supervised/trained practicum students, interns and postdoctoral students.
In addition, Dr. Wiese has served in the following academic roles:

  • From 1988 – 1989 as Adjunct Faculty University of Wisconsin –Washington County.
  • From 1990 – Present as Adjunct Faculty and guest lecturer at University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee School of Continuing Education and (Trauma Counseling Program).
  • From 2009 – Present as Adjunct Faculty at Mount Mary College.

Moreover, Dr. Wiese is a Certified Trauma Specialist, Member of the American Red Cross (ARC) Disaster Mental Health Team (DMH) – SE WI Chapter, member of ARC Services to the Armed Forces, national DMH advisor to the State of Wisconsin, and a certified Red Cross Instructor.

She also serves as the Coordinator of the Membership Assistance Program of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin and is a member of the Milwaukee County Disaster Mental Health Task Force.
