MingYon Blackwell

MingYon LaTrelle Blackwell is the Art Department chair and art teacher at Pulaski High School in Milwaukee. She holds a B.F.A in painting and drawing (1992) from UW-Milwaukee, her teacher licensure from UW-Milwaukee and a MA in the Visual Arts (class 2002) from Cardinal Stritch University.

MingYon has been teaching the visual arts for over 19 years in the public and private sectors. She is strongly involved with the visual arts and has exhibited at many local art galleries. She also works outside of Pulaski High School teaching various forms of the visuals arts to elementary school students at “College for Kids” and Middle School students at “Saturday Academy”. MingYon is Advanced Placement certified and Standard Based Grading Trained. She is an advocate for Pink Butterflies, Rainbows as well as a curriculum that serves students need.

Blackwell has been published in the “School Arts” magazine and has a children’s book out for publishing entitled, “I’m Not Fat, I’m a Big Boned Cat”. Ming was announced Teacher of the Year 2013 by MMABSE, Art Teacher of the month for December 2015 by WAEA and has been given many awards from Pulaski High School for achievements within the school.

Ming, as she likes to be called, is a strong believer in the academic success of all students.
