Mel Toub

Mel was born in New York City and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in materials engineering, as well as an MBA. From 1973 to 1975, he worked for the Coated Abrasives Division of the Norton Company in the areas of textile backings and latex adhesive systems. He joined the Teknor Apex Company in 1975 where he conducted research and development in PVC and TPR compounds. In 1978, he joined GE Silicones where he developed silicone elastomers for the automotive, aerospace, healthcare, and wire & cable industries, and directed application development activities for both heat cured elastomers and liquid injection molding.

Mel has presented numerous technical papers to SAE and ACS on different aspects of silicone elastomer technology and has also lectured for the UW-Madison Continuing Education Technical Series and the Chicago Rubber School. He holds four patent applications in the silicone heat cured elastomer area.

Mel retired from Momentive in November, 2012 and has launched MT Consultants, which focuses on silicone training and problem resolution. In his non-silicone moments, Mel is a serious bassoonist, and performs professionally in several orchestras and chamber groups in the Upstate New York area.
