Gerald (Jerry) Zimmerman
Jerry Zimmerman was born in 1928, four blocks from the Wisconsin State Fair Park, and is a life-time resident of West Allis. In 1947 he graduated from the Naval School of Photography as an aerial photographer. After his 1948 honorable discharge, he entered the lithographic (printing) industry. He retired in 1980 and volunteered as photo editor and columnist for the Wisconsin VFW Newspaper. He continued in both capacities until 1996 when he “retired” again to volunteer as the first, official Wisconsin State Fair Historian. In August 2016 he will complete his 20th year of service. In 2001 he authored the book, “150 Years of The Wisconsin State Fair – An Illustrated History.” He continues to enjoy the restoration and preservation of the Fair’s 165 years of history.
