A Milwaukee native, Gabriela Dorantes joined the staff of the Roberto Hernández Center at UW-Milwaukee in March 2014. A first-generation student, she obtained a bachelor’s in Communications and Spanish from Marquette University in 2010 and is currently pursuing a master’s in Cultural Foundations of Community Engagement and Education at UWM. She is also a 2012 graduate of the Latino Nonprofit Leadership Program.
Gabriela has a passion for higher education and assisting in the advancement of under-represented student groups. She is involved with area organizations that promote peace, awareness and progress. With a special interest in student/academic affairs and a background in nonprofit work, she is excited to be part of the RHC’s team working toward higher Latino-student success in the Milwaukee community as well as at UWM.
In addition, Gabriela brings a special understanding of cultural identity from her Mexican-German background and experiences while living and working in Mexico. She holds dual-citizenship with Mexico and the United States and is energized by the diversity within the Latino heritage.
