Elena Abend

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, pianist Elena Abend has performed with all the major orchestras of her country, including recording with the Filarmonica Nacional. Ms. Abend received her Bachelor and Master degrees from the Juilliard School and awarded the William Schuman Prize for Outstanding Achievement upon graduation. She has performed at important venues such as the Purcell Room at London’s Royal Festival Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Academy of Music with the Philadelphia Orchestra; as well as the renowned Wigmore Hall in London, the Toulouse Conservatoire, Theatre Luxembourg, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C., Chicago Cultural Center, Merkin Concert Hall in New York, the Atlanta Historical Society, the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee and the Teatro Municipal, Teatro Nacional and Teatro Teresa Carren~o in her native Venezuela. More performances include Ravinia and Marlboro Music Festivals, live broadcasts on Philadelphia’s WFLN, The Dame Myra Hess Concert Series on Chicago’s WFMT and Wisconsin Public Radio at the Elvehjem Museum in Madison.

An avid chamber music collaborator she has performed with Frankly Music, Present Music, Chamber Music Milwaukee, Yolanda Marculescu Vocal Arts Series, Faculty Artist Series, with the Fine Arts Quartet and the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra. Most recently Ms. Abend performed on the “Four Seasons” Concert Series in Berkley, California, as well as the “Classical Progressions” Concert Series at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, the Polish Center of Milwaukee, and as invited guest with the Philomusica Quartet and the Rural Musicians Forum in Spring Green WI. More solo performances include the Green Bay Symphony, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Wind Ensemble. Most recently Ms. Abend was the featured piano soloist performing Beethoven’s Chorale Fantasy with the UWM Symphony Orchestra and Choirs.

She has recorded for the Avie label and Albany Records as well as numerous recording and editing projects for Hal Leonard’s G. Schirmer Instrumental Library and Schirmer Performance Editions. Ms.Abend is a founding member of the Elisio Ensemble whose mission is promoting Latin American music. Currently Ms. Abend is Chair of the Piano area at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and faculty at the Lakeside Chamber Music Workshop and the Collaborative Piano Institute at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Minnesota.
