Dr. Joseph Walzer

Dr. Joseph B. Walzer is the project director of the Encyclopedia of Milwaukee and a lecturer in history and ethnic studies at UWM. He first joined the project as a graduate research assistant in 2013 and wrote over 30 entries for EMKE before his graduation with a Ph.D. from UWM’s History Department in 2017. Walzer specializes in race and ethnicity in urban history with an emphasis on Milwaukee. He is revising his dissertation, “Making an Old World Milwaukee: German Heritage, Nostalgia, and the Reshaping of the Twentieth Century City” for publication by a university press.
