Urban Planning: Land Use Planning for Urban Redevelopment
This course will focus on how public sector incentives and regulations impact real estate development and how urban planners interact with developers throughout the development process to achieve land use goals. This course will also examine the historical context for modern real estate development while analyzing contemporary trends in urban redevelopment. In addition, the course aims to expose students to techniques used by the private and public sector to assess development potential including the basics of market analysis, pro forma creation, and site plan design. Students will gain hands on experience in site plan layout review, determining return on investment and assessing market conditions. Additional readings, local real estate guest lecturers and virtual site visits to successful area planning and revitalization projects will round out the curriculum.
