Understanding Participatory Culture

Gr. 9-12

Do you blog about a favorite fandom – or culture of fans? Do you write fan fiction? If so, you are involved in what is known as participatory culture.

Learn about the history of fandom and how digital culture is shaping audiences’ relationships with some of your favorite movies, TV shows, musical bands and novels.

Possible activities include: developing Tumblr posts, writing fan fiction, researching a fandoms’ social media presences. Flash drive is required.
