Twain, Irving & LeGuin: Piercing Complacency
These three classes examine Mark Twain’s “War Prayer,” a chapter from Washington Irving’s “History of New York,” and Ursula Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” Using irony, satire, allegory, fantasy and thought experiment, Twain, Irving and Le Guin confront complacency regarding political and moral blindness that was common then and still is common today.
