The UWM School of Freshwater Sciences – Freshwater Research and Careers
Gr. 9-12
Want to protect earth’s natural resources? Join the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences to learn how we use science to address complex ecosystem and climate issues as the nation’s only school dedicated to freshwater sciences. Spend a week exploring topics such as freshwater ecosystems, fisheries, public health, microbiology and freshwater technology while learning about water science careers. This program is facilitated by the School of Freshwater Sciences’ Outreach Manager Liz Sutton with visits from scientists, graduate students and professionals working in the field.
During Freshwater Research and Careers, students:
- Investigate ecology and aquatic life of the watershed
- Learn water quality sampling techniques
- Explore nonpoint source pollution and water management
- Travel to the Milwaukee River to sample water quality
- Spend a day onboard a research vessel, UWM’s R/V Neeskay, to sample Lake Michigan
This camp will take place in the field and the lab spaces of the School of Freshwater Sciences. Each day the students will meet at the main UWM campus before traveling to the Harbor Campus.
