As of May 2021, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is no longer printed in Milwaukee and before that sold its longtime downtown headquarters. The JS is not alone in cutting costs to survive a sea change in the media industry. What internal and external forces drove daily newspapers to their current precarious position? What’s their status today and what’s the prognosis for their long-term viability?
