Taiwan and China

The Communist victory in the Chinese civil war in 1949, resulted in the establishment of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) on the Chinese mainland, and in Taiwan, the Republic of China. Today, Taiwan is a thriving democracy that the PRC asserts is a part of China. The PRC’s intention to reunify with Taiwan is a source of potential conflict with the United States – which we will discuss in this seminar.
