The Isolation and Loneliness Epidemic
Recent studies have shown that loneliness has the same impact on mortality as smoking 15 cigarettes a day! Melissa Meier, executive director of Eastside Senior Services, discusses ways to combat isolation and loneliness for ourselves and in our community. She presents the positive impact of volunteering and how Eastside Senior Services helps adults age 60 and older to remain independent in their homes through volunteerism. Presenter: Melissa Meier

Pizza Pies to Railroad Ties: Second-Generation Stories
The values of their immigrant parents led Giacomo Fallucca and Cindy Angelos into very different vocations. Listen to Giacomo, whose Italian father opened one bakery in 1964, talk about how he has grown the business, Palermo’s Pizza, to a company employing 700-plus people. Cindy discusses how her Greek parents’ teachings led her to become the first female brakeman on the Milwaukee Road, and how it changed the railroad, the men with whom she worked and her future.
