French Roots of WI and MKE

Was Wisconsin once French territory? Is the UWM campus built on a farm site that once belonged to a lawyer whose ancestors left France in 1765? Does the Wisconsin River have its source at a lake with a French name? Is Racine French for root? Mais oui! Drop that brat and grab a baguette as Monsieur Brian Fette tells the story of how, from Prairie du Chien to Hartford Avenue, it was once all La Nouvelle France.
