Creative Writing Camp for Teens: Advanced Writing Academy

Gr. 9-12

This week-long writing camp is for any high school writer who would like to learn and practice advanced writing techniques related to fiction, poetry, and various academic genres of writing. This camp will include an overview of those three genres as well as activities that will help with invention, feedback, revision, and publishing. In addition, a professional instructor who is interested in teaching and writing will cover the following:

  • Reading samples from fiction, poetry, and academic writing genres.
  • Writing within each genre with focus placed upon specific,
    advanced techniques.
  • How to warm up the writing brain with fun and engaging opening
    writing activities.
  • Practicing writing techniques in a supportive and exploratory environment.
  • Peer review feedback from fellow teen writers and the instructor.
  • An overview on how to and where to submit work for publication.

While writers who have experience in other writing workshops and camps are the target audience for this camp, no experience is necessary for those students who also want to join our strong community and learn for the first time. Participants will receive a personal journal to write in throughout the week and are encouraged to bring laptops or portable writing devices that will help them type out their work.

The week will also culminate with an open sharing event where students can invite family and friends to hear the work cultivated throughout the camp by all writers. If you’re interested in a fun and supportive writing environment, please come join our writing community!
