Academic, Neoclassical and Romantic Art

The beginning of modern art can be seen in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, about 1770-1840. This was a time of political and social change leading to greater interest in the individual and the decline of the aristocracy; less interest in religion and more stress in art on political, historical and landscape themes.
