April 22, 2021 @ 3 PM CTCelebration of Earth Day: Water Justice hosted by UWM Black Student Cultural Center
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Black Student Cultural Center and the Center for Water Policy at the School of Freshwater Sciences invite you to join our virtual Earth Day event. Our esteemed panelists of environmental leaders from around the Great Lakes will speak on critical issues of water justice as we consider the Biden Administration’s Build Back Better infrastructure funding proposal. In cities surrounding the earth’s largest fresh surface water system, do all people have affordable, clean water? How have decades of disinvestment in neighborhoods where People of Color predominantly live resulted in lead-tainted water and public health concerns? Join us for a presentation and lively discussion.

We hope that you can join us in celebrating women succeeding in creative fields.

April 23, 2021 @ 2 PM CTC21 Lecture Series: The Long 2020 featuring Daniel Barber, Beatriz Colomina, and David Gissen hosted by Center for 21st Century Studies
Barber will discuss how the pandemic—and the inequities it mirrored and intensified—has begun to change the discussion around architecture and climate. Colomina will discuss the history of modern architecture and disease, tuberculosis in particular, engaging Alvar Aalto’s idea that the architect should always design for the person in the weakest position. Gissen will question the often narrow and curative character of “healthy” and modernized architectural environments through a critical politics of human impairment and disability.
