Arch 320 Design Fundamentals 2

This course develops the idea of the architectural element as unit of aggregation for both formal and structural purposes. Students study and apply principles of part to whole relationships, structural invention, and composition at 3 different scales: body, building, site. While the design projects are distinct, the concepts are intended to overlap and inform subsequent work. Our investigation this semester is primarily formal, not because we value form as a means unto itself but because it is the foundation of spatial cognition.
