Students in Arch 650/850 Mass Matters have been working on the redevelopment of the Marquette Ore Docks. The projects have focused on using thermodynamics as the primary driver of design with an emphasis on the relationship between form and performance. The students have done this through material studies in which they physically tested artifacts by heating them up and documenting their performance. After this, they translated these studies in adaptive redevelopments of the ore dock. The projects seek to balance the speculative with the real; using physical material testing to drive their designs ideas. Final review for Mass Matters will be on May 8th from 1:30pm to 5:30pm in the commons.
