SUMMARY:Liquid Nitrogen Training September 3\, 2026 12:30pm
DESCRIPTION:Train to learn the hazards involved with using Liquid Nitrogen on September 3\, 2026 12:30pm on Teams \nIf you will be or are working with Liquid Nitrogen you will need to be trained \nThis guidance applies to all UW-Milwaukee faculty\, staff\, and students who use Liquid Nitrogen or other cryogenic liquids in university facilities\, including research and teaching laboratories. It is intended to ensure that inert cryogenic liquids are used and stored with proper training to use engineering controls and postings to safely handle cryogenic liquids. \n A hazard analysis and implementation of necessary controls are expected and necessary to prevent adverse events when using these materials. \nCryogenic liquid hazard evaluation process will consider the following: \n\nAmount of cryogen present and how it is used and stored\nSize of the laboratory\nRoom ventilation\nFailure mode assessment\n\nAfter training you will be able to \n\nUnderstand cryogenic liquid hazards\nFollow the lab rules\, policies and guidance\nOnly operate systems for which they are authorized and trained\nNotify PI and /or Supervisor of any apparent safety hazard

SUMMARY:Introductory Lab Safety and Chemical Hygiene Plan Training on TEAMS Monday September 14\, 2026 9-11am
DESCRIPTION:All laboratory personnel are required to take Introductory Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene Plan Training before handling chemicals and equipment in a UWM laboratory\, studio or shop. \nInterested parties can sign up \nPlease\, signup AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE THE MEETING to receive the teams meeting invitation – You may not receive a link/ invite if you sign up after this time. \nThis includes PIs\, TAs\, RAs\, Lab Managers\, Lab Volunteers\, SURF grant students and High school volunteers. \nThe University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) is intended to cover and provide guidelines for individuals working in the campus laboratory community. The Campus CHP describes policies\, procedures\, equipment\, personal protective equipment\, and work practices that are capable of protecting laboratory personnel from the health hazards in laboratories. \nThe Principal Investigators\, laboratory supervisors\, or individual departments must prepare a Laboratory Specific CHP as well as standard operating procedures (S.O.P.s) for Highly Hazardous Chemicals or Equipment used their laboratories. They may choose to customize the Word.doc version to suit their individual needs and more accurately portray the hazards and controls of their laboratories or they can create their own version if it effectively defines the hazards and controls for their laboratory. \nThis training will prepare you to understand the necessary safety practices and to embrace them while working in the labs.  It also offers you an opportunity to seek answers to any safety questions you may have. \nThis training will inform you of the CHP elements\, proper use of the CHP for safety in the lab\, and how compliance is achieved. General lab safety information and procedures will be discussed. \nFor more information or to request special accommodations\, contact: Jennifer Herriges\, 414-430-7508 . \n sign up  least two hours before the meeting to receive the teams meeting invitation.
