{"id":2681,"date":"2026-04-08T13:08:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T18:08:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety-and-assurances\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=2681"},"modified":"2026-04-08T13:09:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T18:09:10","slug":"2681","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety-and-assurances\/event\/2681\/","title":{"rendered":"Introductory Lab Safety and Chemical Hygiene Plan Training. on TEAMS  April 17, 2026  noon-2 pm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>All laboratory personnel<\/strong> are required to take <strong>Introductory Laboratory Safety and Chemical Hygiene Plan Training<\/strong> before handling chemicals and equipment in a UWM laboratory, studio or shop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested parties can sign up using this<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/milwaukee.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_byMrhHTTAxHQuMe\"><strong> link<\/strong><\/a><strong>. \u00a0<\/strong> You must signup at least <strong>two hours before the meeting to receive the teams meeting invitation.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This includes PIs, TAs, RAs, Lab Managers, Lab Volunteers, SURF grant students and High school volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) is intended to cover and provide guidelines for individuals working in the campus laboratory community. The Campus CHP describes policies, procedures, equipment, personal protective equipment, and work practices that are capable of protecting laboratory personnel from the health hazards in laboratories.<\/p>\n<p>The Principal Investigators, laboratory supervisors, or individual departments must prepare a Laboratory Specific CHP as well as standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Highly Hazardous Chemicals or Equipment used their laboratories. They may choose to customize the Word.doc version to suit their individual needs and more accurately portray the hazards and controls of their laboratories or they can create their own version if it effectively defines the hazards and controls for their laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>This training will prepare you to understand the necessary safety practices and to embrace them while working in the labs.\u00a0 It also offers you an opportunity to seek answers to any safety questions you may have.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"KL4vgMqffJ\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety-health\/chem-hygiene\/\">Chemical Hygiene Plan<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Chemical Hygiene Plan&#8221; &#8212; FAA USA Safety and Health Programs\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety-health\/chem-hygiene\/embed\/#?secret=G6aQo2EyEH#?secret=KL4vgMqffJ\" data-secret=\"KL4vgMqffJ\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This training will inform you of the CHP elements, proper use of the CHP for safety in the lab, and how compliance is achieved.
