The UWM MS Communication Sciences &amp; Disorders program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in Speech-Language Pathology. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction also has approved the undergraduate\/graduate program in communication sciences and disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A career as an audiologist requires a doctoral degree (AuD or Doctor of Audiology). In Wisconsin, an AuD consortial program is offered by UW-Madison and UW-Stevens Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following courses are prerequisites for admission to the major:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A minimum cumulative UWM GPA of 2.750.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A minimum GPA of 3.00 in COMSDIS 220, 230 and 240, earned the <em>first<\/em> time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of 58 credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of UWM\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.uwm.edu\/policies\/undergraduate-policies\/#generaleducationtext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GER<\/a> for Oral and Written Communication \u2013 Part A competency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of UWM\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.uwm.edu\/policies\/undergraduate-policies\/#generaleducationtext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GER<\/a> for Quantitative Literacy \u2013 Part A competency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of an <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/557\/2021\/08\/CSD-Application-Degree-Students.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">application (PDF)<\/a> for admission to the major.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Endorsement by the program coordinator of your application.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You will receive written notice of the admission decision. A meeting with your advisor to discuss the program of study is required immediately following admission to the major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-appeal-procedures\">Appeal Procedures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are refused admission to the major, you may appeal the decision by writing to the department chairperson and enumerating the reasons you believe your case is exceptional and merits additional consideration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If possible, the appeal should be accompanied by written support from one or more of the faculty, and should include documentation of any extenuating circumstances cited in support of the appeal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A committee composed of the entire faculty of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders will consider your appeal for admission to the major.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are notified in writing of the faculty\u2019s decision concerning the appeal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-graduate-program-information\">Graduate Program Information<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited college or university must be completed before the first term of enrollment in the MS-CSD program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must also meet specific departmental requirements for undergraduate coursework in the field.<\/strong> Students may be admitted with as many as two course deficiencies, however, they must be completed during the first year of the graduate program.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br><strong>If you have an undergraduate degree in communication sciences and disorders, speech and hearing sciences or speech-language pathology,<\/strong>\u202fyou will have completed these requirements during your undergraduate studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you have an undergraduate degree in another field,<\/strong>\u202fyou must have completed 15 credits in communication sciences and disorders, including courses in English phonetics, language development and anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanism to be eligible to <strong><em>apply<\/em><\/strong> to the program.&nbsp; Students must also have <strong><em>completed <\/em><\/strong>27 credits in communication sciences and disorders, including speech and\/or hearing science, introduction to audiology, aural rehabilitation and statistics, in addition to the courses listed above before beginning the master\u2019s in speech pathology program.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UWM offers a sequence of courses designed to meet these requirements.&nbsp; The UWM post-baccalaureate program, also called the \u201cleveling\u201d program, is available here:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/627\/2023\/05\/CSD-Nondegree-Special-Requirements-v.-8-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UWM CSD Post Baccalaureate Non-Degree Special Program<\/a>\u202f(PDF) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For questions concerning UWM\u2019s Post Baccalaureate Program, please contact the Undergraduate and Post Baccalaureate Program Coordinator, Barbara Roa Pauloski, PhD, CCC-SLP, at <a href=\"mailto:pauloski@uwm.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pauloski@uwm.edu<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have questions about your eligibility to apply for our graduate program, please contact Graduate Program Coordinator Shelley K.
