This flexible program requires a minimum of&nbsp;<strong>33<\/strong>&nbsp;graduate credits credits of which 16 are core credits and 17 are from electives tailored to student interest and capstone project design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may transfer up to&nbsp;<strong>12 graduate-level credits<\/strong>&nbsp;toward the degree, pending approval. The program can be completed&nbsp;<strong>100% online<\/strong>, offering working professionals the flexibility to balance their academic and career goals. In-person elective course options are also available at UWM and affiliated institutions for those who prefer a hybrid experience<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program timeline of four semesters of coursework begins in the spring of each academic year. Students who choose to enroll in Summer or Fall semesters will be assigned an advisor and may begin enrolling in elective courses. Staff<\/a><\/li><li class=\"uwm-p-tablist--item\"><a href=\"#tab-6nb0-research-spaces\" class=\"uwm-p-tablist--link\">Research Spaces<\/a><\/li><\/ul><div class=\"uwm-p-tabcontent\">\n<div id=\"tab-6nb0-about\" class=\"uwm-p-tabcontent--pane\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-advantages-of-the-pp-otd-degree-program\">Advantages of the PP-OTD Degree Program:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Flexible Formats:<\/strong> The program is fully online, with optional in-person courses for those who prefer hybrid learning.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transfer Credit Option:<\/strong> Students may transfer up to 12 graduate credits, accelerating degree completion and reducing costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Customizable Curriculum with Elective Choices:<\/strong> Seventeen elective credits allow students, with the mentorship of a major advisor, to tailor the program and their capstone project to studies aligned with their intended career path..<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Supportive Faculty and Interdisciplinary Environment:<\/strong>&nbsp;Expert faculty serve as advisors, provide mentorship, and foster collaboration across disciplines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading default\" id=\"h-area-of-nbsp-elective-nbsp-concentration-minimum-of-nbsp-17-nbsp-credits-nbsp\">Area of&nbsp;Elective&nbsp;Concentration (minimum of&nbsp;17&nbsp;credits)&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students work with faculty advisors to develop a statement of their proposed concentration area, their needed and desired knowledge and courses, a mentoring team, possible doctoral experience sites, and a doctoral project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-doctoral-experience-and-the-doctoral-project-minimum-of-nbsp-7-nbsp-credits-nbsp\">The Doctoral Experience and the Doctoral Project (minimum of&nbsp;7&nbsp;credits)&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students must deliver and show competence in an evidence-based intervention that will culminate in the defense of a Doctoral Portfolio. Like the MS thesis and PhD dissertations, the culminating doctoral capstone project must be written, publicly presented and defended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-additional-requirements\">Additional Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-major-professor-as-advisor-nbsp\"><strong>Major Professor as Advisor<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Graduate School requires that each student&nbsp;have&nbsp;a major professor to advise, supervise, and approve the program of study. Students are assigned faculty advisors in the OTD program upon acceptance into the program.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-related-programs\">Related Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/academics\/ms-occupational-therapy\/\">Occupational Therapy, MS<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/academics\/bs-occupational-science-technology\/\">Occupational Science &amp; Technology, BS<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/biomedical-sciences-healthcare-administration\/academics\/phd-health-sciences\/\">Health Sciences, PhD<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.uwm.edu\/health-professions-sciences\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/pre-occupational-therapy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pre-Occupational Therapy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"tab-6nb0-admission\" class=\"uwm-p-tabcontent--pane\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-admission-requirements\">Admission Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To be considered for the Post-Professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (PP-OTD) program, applicants must meet the admission requirements of the UWM Graduate School. In addition, the following departmental requirements must be satisfied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>MSOT or MOT degree from an ACOTE-accredited program (or equivalent recognized by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, WFOT).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Occupational therapy licensure (or international equivalent approved by WFOT). Current master\u2019s students may apply but cannot formally matriculate to the OTD program until they&nbsp;have achieved NBCOT\u202finitial\u202fcertification and are\u202flicensed\u202fin at least one state. Graduate students may be provisionally admitted to the post-professional OTD program&nbsp;and accumulate credits toward graduation for one semester while\u202frequired\u202fdocumentation is being prepared or approved.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The admissions process also includes evaluation of GPA, prior coursework, professional experiences, and statement of personal interests.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transfer-credits\">Transfer Credits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students may transfer up to&nbsp;<strong>12<\/strong>&nbsp;graduate-level credits toward the PPOTD degree, subject to approval by the doctoral program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Graduate Coursework from UWM:<\/strong> Graduates of the UWM master\u2019s students admitted to the PPOTD program  may apply graduate credits from their UWM master\u2019s degree toward the doctoral program. These credits must be approved by the program and may not exceed 50% of the total credits required for the degree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Graduate Coursework from Other Institutions:<\/strong>&nbsp;Students may transfer up to 12 graduate credits earned at other accredited institutions, provided the coursework was not applied to a previous graduate-level degree and meets the following Graduate School requirements: (1) Coursework must not have been used to fulfill requirements for another degree. (2) Courses must be at the graduate level. (3) Courses must be from an accredited institution. (4) A minimum grade of A or B is required (grades of B- are not accepted). (5) Courses must have been completed within five years prior to enrollment in the PP-OTD program.
