{"id":9944,"date":"2026-10-06T15:36:06","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T20:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/publichealth\/?p=9944"},"modified":"2026-10-06T15:37:50","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T20:37:50","slug":"fitwell-helps-build-community-during-fall-welcome-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/publichealth\/fitwell-helps-build-community-during-fall-welcome-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"FitWell Helps Build Community During Fall Welcome 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As students returned to campus for the Fall 2026 semester, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/publichealth\/fitwell-courses\/\">FitWell<\/a> played a key role in helping Panthers feel welcomed, connected, and engaged. Through partnerships with departments and organizations across UWM, FitWell created opportunities for students to meet new people, explore campus resources, and discover healthy ways to support their well-being from the very beginning of the academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FitWell&#8217;s outreach efforts began with the Panther Transition Experience, where staff helped new students navigate campus, answered questions, and introduced them to FitWell programs and resources. Throughout Fall Welcome, FitWell maintained a strong presence at events designed to help students build connections and feel more at home at UWM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program continued its longstanding partnership with the Center for International Education during CIE Chill Out, bringing lawn games and recreation opportunities that encouraged international students to gather, relax, and connect with one another. Later that evening, FitWell partnered with Student Leadership Programs and University Housing to host Introvert&#8217;s Night In, a quieter alternative to traditional welcome events. More than 60 students attended the event, enjoying board games, puzzles, coloring activities, refreshments, and meaningful conversations in a relaxed setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Community-building remained a central focus as FitWell participated in Pangea-Palooza, collaborating with multicultural and resource centers across campus to create an interactive environment filled with games, activities, prizes, and opportunities for connection. The following day, FitWell participated in the annual Involvement Fair, one of its most important student outreach events, where hundreds of students stopped by to learn about wellness opportunities while enjoying activities such as giant Jenga, cornhole, and Giant 4 Across.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FitWell also partnered with University Recreation during UREC Fest, introducing students to fitness and wellness opportunities available across campus. Staff shared information about FitWell courses, answered questions, and even helped students register for classes. A newly created game, &#8220;soccer bowling,&#8221; quickly became a favorite attraction among students and campus mascot Pounce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional outreach efforts included Health@UWM Lawn Games, where students from UWM&#8217;s health-focused colleges connected with faculty, advisors, and classmates while participating in recreational activities. Throughout August and September, FitWell staff also used colorful sidewalk chalk messages to encourage movement, mindfulness, and moments of positivity across campus. Monthly contests offering gift cards, FitWell merchandise, and Brewers gear helped maintain student engagement beyond individual events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To conclude its Fall Welcome programming, FitWell partnered with Student Health and Wellness and University Recreation to host Sunset Yoga on the Chapman Hall lawn. The event provided students with an opportunity to slow down, practice mindfulness, and learn stress-management techniques as they settled into the semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together, these events reflect FitWell&#8217;s commitment to supporting the whole student. By creating opportunities for recreation, wellness, social connection, and community engagement, FitWell helped make the start of the Fall 2026 semester a welcoming and positive experience for students across campus.
