Zilber&nbsp;College of Public Health attained national&nbsp;accreditation from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ceph.org\/\">Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)<\/a>&nbsp;in 2017,&nbsp;making the Zilber College the only accredited college of public health in Wisconsin.&nbsp;The Zilber College was re-accredited for a seven-year term in 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"size-p-lg\">Accreditation by CEPH is a very&nbsp;rigorous&nbsp;process in which peer institutions judge whether an applicant has met standards in more&nbsp;than 40 areas, including curriculum, research, community engagement, faculty and&nbsp;student recruitment, and retention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list uwm-c-list--link-arrow\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/publichealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/571\/2022\/09\/Zilber-Self-Study-FINAL-Electronic-January-9-2022.pdf\">Self-Study &#8211; January 2022<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/publichealth\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/571\/2022\/09\/CEPH-final.2022.uwmil_.pdf\">CEPH Final Report &#8211; August 2022<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion uwm-p-accordion--icon-left-circle\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What is the Council on Education for Public Health?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/ceph.org\">Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)<\/a> is an independent, nonprofit organization that accredits public health colleges and programs. Programs and colleges awarded accreditation meet criteria established by CEPH to ensure students are prepared to work in their chosen field. Once a college or program is CEPH-accredited, it becomes a member of ASPPH.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What is the difference between a CEPH-accredited school and program?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>CEPH accredits both colleges of public health and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs. Colleges of public health are required to offer MPH tracks in at least three of the areas of public health (Biostatistics, Community and Behavioral Health Promotion, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences, and Public Health Policy), while programs are only required to offer a single MPH degree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, colleges of public health offer doctoral programs in at least two areas of public health. The Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health is the first CEPH-accredited college of public health in the state of Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What is the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aspph.org\">Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH)<\/a> is a national organization representing accredited public health schools and programs. ASPPH promotes efforts to improve the public\u2019s health through education, research, and policy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong><strong>What is the National Board of Public Health Examiners?&nbsp;Will I be able to take the Certified in Public Health exam?<\/strong><\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbphe.org\">National Board of Public Health Examiners<\/a> offers the Certified in Public Health credential. The voluntary certification, administered in exam form, demonstrates that an individual has mastered the core competencies of public health. Individuals who graduate from an accredited school or college of public health, or graduated after the school or college becomes an applicant for accreditation, are eligible to take the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, an individual who has a \u201cbachelor\u2019s degree and at least five subsequent years of public health work experience\u201d may also take the exam. More information about this eligibility category is available at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbphe.org\/\">NBPHE web site<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-white uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center heading-separator uwm-u-text--center\" id=\"mission-values-goals\">Vision, Mission, Identity, Values &amp; Goals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The School of Allied Health Professions was formed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1975, and renamed the College of Health Sciences in 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Zilber College was established in 2009 and was nationally accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in 2017. It was reaccredited in 2022 for a 7-year term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In July 2023, UW-Milwaukee realigned its schools and colleges as part of its long-term strategic plan. The disciplines of Kinesiology, Nutritional Sciences, Health Care Informatics and Public Health are aimed at improving the health and wellness of individuals and populations. As a result of the realignment, the Kinesiology, Nutritional Sciences and Health Care Informatics programs from the College of Health Sciences and the programs from the Zilber School of Public Health merged to create today&#8217;s Joseph J. Zilber College of Public Health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">A national search for a dean for the new college was launched in Fall of 2023, resulting in the hiring of Dr. Monica Wendel who joined the college in July of 2024.
