SUMMARY:Zilber College of Public Health Weekly Seminar - Health/Data Disparities in Indian Country
DESCRIPTION:Health/Data Disparities in Indian Country\nPresented by Will Funmaker MBA\, MLT (ASCP)\nDirector\, Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center (GLITEC) \nHealth and data disparities in Indian Country remain significant\, with tribal communities experiencing higher rates of chronic diseases\, mental health challenges\, and limited access to quality health care. These disparities are exacerbated by historical trauma\, professional shortages\, and insufficient health data\, which often leads to underrepresentation in national health policies and research. The Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center (GLITEC) works to bridge this gap by providing data collection\, analysis\, and technical assistance to Tribal communities\, ensuring that health decisions are informed by accurate and culturally relevant information. GLITEC collaborates with tribal nations to strengthen public health infrastructure\, support disease surveillance\, and advocate for data sovereignty. By fostering partnerships between tribes\, health agencies\, and policymakers\, GLITEC empowers tribal communities with the tools to improve health outcomes and achieve health equity. Through culturally responsive research and public health initiatives\, GLITEC continues to address disparities and enhance the well-being of Native populations. \nJoin us  to hear the latest in the research and practice of public health to support a just\, equitable\, healthy future for people\, communities\, and the environment in Milwaukee\, the state of Wisconsin\, and beyond. \nThe seminar can also be attended virtually on Teams.
