SUMMARY:Zilber College of Public Health Seminar - Strengths-based and Innovative Pathways to Address Maternal Mortality
DESCRIPTION:Presented by \nEmily Cramer\, PhD\nAssociate Professor\, Diederich College of Communication\nMarquette University \nA leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide\, preeclampsia is marked by the onset of high blood pressure during pregnancy\, usually in combination with signs of organ failure. Rather than focusing on the deficits and vulnerabilities associated with preeclampsia\, a strengths-based approach centers the capacities\, agency\, and cultural strengths of individuals in the context of the condition. When it comes to preeclampsia care\, a strengths-based approach recognizes that survivors possess valuable resources\, knowledge\, and adaptive interactional strategies that can drive positive change.  \nThe seminar can also be attended virtually on Teams.

SUMMARY:Zilber College of Public Health Seminar - The Human Elements of Health Data Visualization in an AI Obsessed World
DESCRIPTION:Presented by:\nAmanda Makulec\, MPH\nFounder | Viz Responsibly\nAdvisor | Data Visualization Society \nAs genAI tools reshape how many data visualizations are created\, health data requires more than just a human in the loop. Often\, we see ourselves or people we care about represented in those data sets\, sometimes from exceptionally challenging periods of illness or frustration navigating health care systems. \nThe human elements of health data require that we handle data with care\, taking into consideration: \n\nWho is represented in the data?\nWho is the messenger sharing the data?\nHow data may be (mis)understood and influence health behaviors?\n\nAbout the speaker: \nAmanda Makulec is a data visualization leader on a mission to help people make data meaningful. Over the past 15 years\, she’s worked in more than a dozen countries coaching teams\, designing data visualizations\, and building communities focused on communicating data effectively with an emphasis on health data visualization. \nAmanda is a founding board member and former Executive Director for the global Data Visualization Society\, author of Dashboards That Deliver\, and co-host of Chart Chat. You can follow her on LinkedIn and by subscribing to her Viz Responsibly newsletter. \nThe seminar can also be attended virtually on Teams.
