“The Age of Love” Screening & Discussion
March 1 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pmFree
UWM Presents “Age of Love: Understanding Love and Relationships as We Age,” sponsored by Stowell Associates with author and former Wisconsin Governor Marty Schreiber and producer of the documentary “The Age of Love,” Steven Loring. This event will include a screening of the documentary, “The Age of Love” along with a panel discussion with both speakers.
Former Wisconsin Governor Marty Schreiber will discuss his book, “My Two Elaines – Learning, Coping and Surviving as an Alzheimer’s Caregiver.” After more than a decade as a caregiver, Schreiber began to realize that there were many things he learned too late. As heartbreaking as Alzheimer’s is, he realizes that the situation is made worse when caregivers don’t know what to expect. In addition to shedding light on better ways to respond to the disease, Schreiber wanted to honor Elaine’s courage in facing Alzheimer’s, something he didn’t fully appreciate until he uncovered journals that she began to keep after her diagnosis. He knew he needed to share both of their stories.
The next presenter, Steven Loring, will share his documentary, “The Age of Love.” The movie follows the humorous and poignant adventures of thirty seniors in Rochester, NY who sign up for a first-of-its-kind speed dating event exclusively for 70- to 90-year-olds. From anxious anticipation through the dates that follow, it’s an unexpected tale of intrepid seniors who lay their hearts on the line, and discover how dreams and desires change—or don’t change—from first love to the far reaches of life. Part of Loring’s initiative is to bring senior speed dating to local communities- bringing more outreach and media coverage, encouraging a national conversation about older adult relationships.
Registration is free. Please RSVP by February 15th.
