Schools\/Colleges\/Divisions or Departments (as applicable) informed of hazards or potential hazards in their buildings\/area, whether the information comes as a result of an accident\/incident, a reported hazard, or a periodic occupational health and safety inspection, are responsible for following up on the report and abating the problem upon notification. If the hazards cannot be addressed immediately, a corrective action plan shall be developed. Serious hazards that pose a risk of immediate danger to life or health must be corrected immediately and operations in that area ceased until the immediate danger is abated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financial responsibility for abatement shall rest at the School\/College\/Division level.  Schools\/Colleges\/Divisions may, in their discretion, delegate the remediation responsibility to the Department level. Inadequate funding will not be an acceptable reason for allowing employees to be exposed to known hazards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the School\/College\/Division or Department fails to make the necessary abatement or remediation within a reasonable period of time, the Department of University Safety and Assurances will pursue the matter to the next higher level of authority, to include the appropriate Vice Chancellor or the Office of the Provost for School\/College issues.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abatements and remediations that are not addressed at any of the previous administrative levels will be reported to the Chancellor.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
