Twisting and Shouting at the UWM Planetarium

The UWM Planetarium ended its 50th anniversary celebration with a bang at its Rock & Rockets event last Sunday.

Planetarium staff member Jack Fennimore took audiences through a tour of the most enduring images and achievements of the 1960s with music videos created by himself. From the Civil Rights Movement, the moon landing and Star Trek, no iconic moment was missed.

Director Jean Creighton then took over for an indoor stargazing session set to the Beatles, the Temptations and more. The presentation was rounded off with a Q&A session.

Outside of the planetarium, guests enjoyed cookies and punch as well as pizza provided by Roman Candle Pizza. On display was a presentation about the history and science of rockets. A gallery of historic photos of the planetarium and the UW-Milwaukee campus around the time the planetarium opened could also be seen.

We’re grateful that everyone could join us for one last celebration of the planetarium and the era it was born into. As Jack said in the presentation, we hope you keep a little bit of the 60s in your hearts.

Missed Rock & Rockets? Well don’t because we still have our Northern Lights event on Fridays through Dec. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
