Over 2,500 people enjoyed our NASA-sponsored event on August 21, 2017 to view the solar eclipse. While eclipse glasses sold out quickly, we made sure to have some left over for people to share the 83 percent of totality.
Guests enjoyed a science and music infused party to go with the eclipse viewing. The Belle Weathers provided the soundtrack, Chillwaukee brought the ice pops, and everyone enjoyed lawn games and a bounce house. There were raffles set up with exciting prizes from local businesses and organizations. As part of the festivities, Planetarium Director Dr. Jean Creighton presented five times “Eclipse 101” to audience members of all ages who were curious about this amazing phenomenon. She happily answered many questions.
Our final performance of The Sun’s Disappearing Act, our theatrical production discussing the history, culture, and science of solar eclipses was sold out a week in advance. Our performance was a smash hit with audiences, only eclipsed by the actual eclipse.
Thank you for enjoying the solar eclipse with us. It was a real treat to be under the moon’s shadow with you
