{"id":4339,"date":"2019-03-19T13:08:16","date_gmt":"2019-03-19T18:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/physics\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;eventDate=2019-04-05#038;p=4336"},"modified":"2019-04-01T13:43:11","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T18:43:11","slug":"pqviets040519","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/physics\/event\/pqviets040519\/","title":{"rendered":"Physics Colloquium &#8211; Aaron Viets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Aaron Viets<\/strong>, PhD Candidate, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee<\/p>\n<p><strong>Optimizing Advanced LIGO&#8217;s Scientific Output with Fast, Accurate, Clean Calibration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fast, accurate calibration of Advanced LIGO data is an essential part of gravitational-wave astronomy, necessary for prompt electromagnetic follow-up of gravitational-wave events and reliable estimation of source parameters.   <\/p>\n<p>I will discuss methods used in both low and high latency to produce the calibrated strain signal h(t).   I will highlight recent improvements that have been made to improve the calibration process during and after the second observing run.
