Description

The objective of this project is to establish mechanical testing methods for low alloy steel foam at low and high strain rates. The methodology is as follows:
1.Procurement of steal foam from Maynard Steel
2.Mechanical testing at varying strain rates, and calculations of plateau stress, densification strain, and energy absorption efficiency
3.Micro structure investigation and fracture analysis
4.Modeling simulations

Tasks and Responsibilities

The students have the following responsibilities:
•Obtain steel samples from Maynard Steel
•Mechanically test the samples at varying strain rates, calculate the plateau stress, densification strain, and energy absorption efficiency
•Analyze the micro structure as well as preform fracture analysis
•Create models and run simulations
