Study Abroad in the Dominican Republic: Intersections of Health, Culture, and Water in the Dominican Republic
June 23 @ 8:00 am - July 8 @ 5:00 pm
Learn how water and culture affect health on the Caribbean island of Hispañola by studying abroad in the Dominican Republic.
This course will introduce students to health and the health care system in the
Dominican Republic. Students will have the opportunity to examine how water
intersects with culture and health in a variety of settings, including rural and
urban areas, bateys (communities of sugar cane cutters), and tourist
communities. They will also have the opportunity to experience a variety of
health care settings. To better understand and appreciate Dominican culture
and its impact on health beliefs and practices, students will take Spanish
language classes at a local university.
