Dr. Lance Weinhardt’s primary research focus is on developing effective primary and secondary HIV-prevention interventions that can be implemented widely in resource-poor settings. His work has been conducted in Milwaukee, South Africa, and Malawi. In a recent study, he is examining the effects of sustainable economic development programs on food security and health outcomes in sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Weinhardt’s wider interests include how social, economic, and behavioral approaches can be combined to increase resilience and reduce disease in resource-poor settings. He has also begun focusing his efforts on LGBT health, particularly with transgender and gender-nonconforming youth.
