Nathan Sheppard is one of the Clinical Fellows at the University Counseling Services (UCS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He recently graduated from the University of Michigan with his Master’s in Social Work and moved back to Milwaukee. He has worked as a counselor and therapist for members of the LGBTQ+ community and with university students. Nathan also recently worked as a crisis counselor for LGBTQ+ youth. He approaches therapy with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship between the student and himself. Nathan believes in creating a collaborative, non-judgmental, and supportive space for all students with whom he works. Nathan uses a strengths-based empowerment approach to therapy; he incorporates components of cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness.  He also advocates for changing systems within therapeutic practices to incorporate queer and multicultural perspectives and experiences.
