A team from UWM\u2019s School of Architecture & Urban Planning is floating an idea to bring art to local waterways, and visitors can get a look on dry land.<\/p>\n
Led by Antonio Furgiuele, adjunct assistant professor of architecture, the Milwaukee Arts Barge project is a portable performance\/exhibit space that would float on a barge in Lake Michigan and Milwaukee rivers. A box-shaped container riding on the barge would have folding sides for easy portability, Furguiele said. Sides could be folded down for plays, art exhibitions, musical performances and other presentations.<\/p>\n
Arts organizations, social groups, water advocacy and government organizations are sponsoring the project. According to Furgiuele, the groups are seeking a barge to buy or rent, with the goal of setting sail next summer.<\/p>\n
Preliminary ideas for the Milwaukee Arts Barge will be displayed through June 30 at the Mobile Design Box, 1551 N. Water St. The designs are part of a Mobility Matters Exhibit.<\/p>\n
