{"id":97008,"date":"2021-09-17T16:24:42","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T21:24:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=97008"},"modified":"2024-09-27T09:58:42","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T14:58:42","slug":"national-depression-screening-day-oct-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/national-depression-screening-day-oct-7\/","title":{"rendered":"National Depression Screening Day Oct. 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Have you ever wondered what depression is or if you have ever experienced it?<\/p>\n<p>According to the CDC, from August 2020 to February 2021, the percentage of adults with recent symptoms of anxiety or depression increased from 36.4% to 41.5%. Additionally, an estimated 16 million U.S. adults, nearly 7% of the population, have had at least one major depressive episode in the past year, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.<\/p>\n<p>UWM is participating in National Depression Screening Day on Oct. 7. If you feel like you have been experiencing increased irritability, mood shifts, increased anxiety or stress as of late, we encourage you to get a mental health check-up by completing an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.helpyourselfhelpothers.org\/\">online screening<\/a>. Upon screening, students are welcome to schedule a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/norris\/counseling\/lets-talk\/\">Let\u2019s Talk consultation<\/a> to discuss their results with a UCS professional. UCS will be adding additional Let\u2019s Talk opportunities the week of Oct. 7. Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/norris\/university-counseling-services\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">University Counseling Services homepage<\/a> for more information on this event and the UWM counseling services or contact us directly by calling 414-229-4133.<\/p>\n<p>We also encourage you to check out SilverCloud, which is an online, interactive, and free mental health resource available to all UWM students.
