{"id":62997,"date":"2018-09-27T14:59:21","date_gmt":"2018-09-27T19:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=62997"},"modified":"2024-06-18T16:31:27","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T21:31:27","slug":"new-program-focuses-on-managing-change-from-the-industrial-internet-of-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/new-program-focuses-on-managing-change-from-the-industrial-internet-of-things\/","title":{"rendered":"New program focuses on managing change from the industrial internet of things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MILWAUKEE _ Big data streaming on the industrial internet of things (IIoT) has the potential to revolutionize manufacturing by connecting all functions of an enterprise and by spawning technologies that accomplish that.<\/p>\n<p>A new four-day program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s Lubar School of Business introduces senior managers and those who work with them to navigating and leading these game-changing connected systems.<\/p>\n<p>Called the\u00a0<strong>Connected Systems Challenge<\/strong>, the program focuses on big-picture IIoT strategy and leadership, diving deep into key performance indicators, enterprise resource planning, manufacturing execution systems, supply chain management and other topics.\u00a0It is taught by seasoned manufacturing professionals and expert faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Officials at General Electric predict the IIoT market will reach $225 billion by 2020, potentially impacting close to half of the world\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConnected systems represents a\u00a0huge culture change for companies, affecting how employees behave, the way they think about their work and how they are rewarded,\u201d says\u00a0Sarah Freeman, associate dean of executive education at the Lubar School.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is at the forefront of connected systems research with its recently launched Connected Systems Institute, a multidisciplinary center formed in collaboration with industry leaders such as Rockwell Automation, Microsoft and Johnson Controls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you were able to organize all the data streams in the IIoT, it would reveal patterns that point to strategies for increasing efficiency, productivity and safety,\u201d said Adel Nasiri, interim executive director of UWM\u2019s Connected Systems Institute.<\/p>\n<p>The program will be held Oct. 31-Nov. 1\u00a0and\u00a0Dec. 12-13.
