{"id":62462,"date":"2018-09-17T10:54:37","date_gmt":"2018-09-17T15:54:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=62462"},"modified":"2024-09-27T10:02:26","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T15:02:26","slug":"uwm-to-welcome-community-during-doors-open-milwaukee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/uwm-to-welcome-community-during-doors-open-milwaukee\/","title":{"rendered":"UWM to welcome community during Doors Open Milwaukee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UWM will welcome its neighbors Sept. 22 and 23 as it participates in the eighth annual Doors Open Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.doorsopenmilwaukee.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Doors Open Milwaukee<\/a> celebrates the art, architecture, culture and history of the city by offering looks into more than 170 buildings, many not usually open to the public, in downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. Another 30-plus ticketed tours will be led by community leaders during the two day event.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62463\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62463\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-62463\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/09\/doorsopen300x200-20170924_IMC_AA_03-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62463\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Visitors check out a student project in the UWM School of Architecture and Urban Planning during last year\u2019s Doors Open Milwaukee. (UWM Photo\/Alexis Amenson)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Visitors to the UWM campus will find a map that shows the tour locations of the Manfred Olson Planetarium, the Biological Sciences Greenhouse, the School of Architecture and Urban Planning and the Golda Meir Library.<\/p>\n<p>Each stop of the UWM tour offers the opportunity to discover a part of the campus\u2019 rich culture.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, visitors can plan on attending the Golda Meir Library where they will find over 1.3 million rare treasures dating as far back as 1452.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, visitors will be able to see 684 species from over 110 plant families at the Biological Sciences Greenhouse. Visitors will also be able to visit the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, where they will find a presentation of neighborhood initiatives in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<p>The Manfred Olson Planetarium will offer a 45 minute show at the top of each hour while open both Saturday and Sunday to visitors.<\/p>\n<p>Off campus tours will also be offered Saturday at the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences at 600 E. Greenfield Ave. and at the UWM Panther Arena at 400 W. Kilbourn Ave.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors to the School of Freshwater Sciences will be able to tour the research vessel Neeskay, while visitors to the Panther Arena will be able to see the new renovations in
