The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee placed 572nd in a 2018 ranking of 18,000 institutions of higher learning worldwide compiled by the Center for World University Rankings.<\/p>\n

According to the center<\/a>, the rankings attempt to assess education quality, alumni employment, research output and citations without relying on surveys and university data submissions.<\/p>\n

UWM ranked 155th in the United States.<\/p>\n

Rankings are based on seven categories: quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, research output, citations, and quality and influence of publications.<\/p>\n

This year, factors related to research account for 70 percent of the ranking. The primary criteria are volume of research papers, the number of papers appearing in influential, top-tier journals and the number of highly cited research papers.<\/p>\n

The rankings also consider the percentage of alumni and faculty members who have won major international awards and the percentage of alumni who have held CEO positions at major companies.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is important to note that our ranking varies depending upon which ranking you look at. We\u2019re higher on some other rankings,\u201d said Mark Harris, UWM interim vice provost for research.<\/p>\n

For example, UWM ranks 373rd in the world and 127th in the United States on the 2018 Ranking Web of Universities<\/a>, which measures Google Scholar citations for over 5,000 institutions. In the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Global Universities ranking<\/a>, which uses Clarivate data analytics and reputational surveys, UWM ranks 497th globally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
