He first auditioned over the summer at regional auditions in Oak Creek. After he made it past this first round and advanced to the second round of tryouts in downtown Milwaukee, producers for \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d asked Mandell and his wife, Karly, to play the game as a team for a special couples episode.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey flew us out to L.A., and then on the day of taping, the shuttle picked us up at 6 a.m.,\u201d said Mandell. \u201cYou\u2019re naturally excited, and it\u2019s a really fun game to play, but I was also really nervous to be there. I think I was more nervous in the morning than during the actual taping of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n
On the day that Mandell and his wife recorded the show, six total episodes of Wheel of Fortune were filmed. They were members of the audience during the first two episodes, then played the game in its third round.<\/p>\n
During his introduction, Mandell mentioned that he was a professor at UWM, and made a tax joke, which he says \u201cprobably went over ok.\u201d<\/p>\n
