{"id":52345,"date":"2017-10-23T16:41:59","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T21:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=52345"},"modified":"2017-10-23T16:41:59","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T21:41:59","slug":"registration-open-gis-day-uwm-nov-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/registration-open-gis-day-uwm-nov-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration open for GIS Day at UWM Nov. 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UWM GIS Council has again planned a full schedule of <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/gis-council\/gisday\/\">GIS Day<\/a> activities on campus to showcase Milwaukee-area GIS projects and resources.<\/p>\n<p>GIS \u2014 geographic information systems \u2014 are computer systems designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage and present geographical data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/gis-council\/gisday\/gisday-program\/\">GIS Day activities<\/a> include hands-on workshops and presentations by area GIS professionals.<\/p>\n<p>All sessions are free and open to the public, but <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/gis-council\/gisday\/registration\/\">registration is appreciated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A luncheon will feature a keynote presentation by Mark Manone, of Northern Arizona University and the Power of Data Project. Manone\u2019s talk is titled \u201cShare Your Place, Share Your Space:\u00a0 Reintroducing geospatial literacy from the top down, bottom up and side to side.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in presenting, you can still sign up for an Ignite session (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=130698873\">pecha kucha<\/a>) session or vendor\/information table.
