Pulitzer Prize-winning syndicated columnist Clarence Page of the Chicago Tribune will moderate a panel discussion on free speech rights and responsibilities at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sept. 27.<\/p>\n
The forum, \u201cWhen Free Speech Collides with Impermissible Speech: A Civil Discourse,\u201d will explore the right to free speech on campus and that of visiting speakers. Panelists will also explore the best ways for people to respond to speech with which they disagree without infringing on anyone\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n
Panelists will include Chris Ott, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin; Rick Esenberg, the founder and president and general counsel of the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty; ethicist Blain Neufeld, an associate professor of philosophy at UWM; UWM alum Michele Bria, the chief executive officer of the Journey House; and two students.<\/p>\n
The panel discussion will kick off a series of events focused on freedom of expression at UWM during the 2017-18 school year. A salon organized by students will be the next event in November.<\/p>\n
As many as 800 students are expected to attend the panel discussion from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the ballroom of the UWM Student Union, 2200 E Kenwood Blvd.<\/p>\n
