{"id":47950,"date":"2017-05-12T13:14:27","date_gmt":"2017-05-12T18:14:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=47950"},"modified":"2017-05-12T13:14:27","modified_gmt":"2017-05-12T18:14:27","slug":"chemistry-biochemistry-research-symposium-set-may-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/chemistry-biochemistry-research-symposium-set-may-23\/","title":{"rendered":"Chemistry, biochemistry research symposium set for May 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Annual Research Symposium will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23 at the Student Union Fireside Lounge.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring three poster sessions and more than 50 presenters, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/chemistry\/event\/awards-day-and-symposium\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">the symposium showcases<\/a> the exceptional and diverse research of graduate and undergraduate students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe symposium is a great opportunity for students to share their hard work and for the local community to learn about excellent research,\u201d said Mark Yerukhimovich, a graduate student who organized the symposium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScience comedian\u201d Tim Lee will headline the event, performing from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerpointcomedian.com\/about\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">According to his website<\/a>, Lee got his PhD from the University of California, Davis, but turned to comedy after finding science work \u201cbored him to tears.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Poster sessions run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The symposium will close with an awards ceremony recognizing the best poster presentations of the day, as well as honoring undergraduate and graduate students who showed exceptional performance throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>Prospective undergraduate or graduate students are particularly encouraged to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department Annual Research Symposium will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 23 at the Student Union Fireside Lounge.
