UWM’s School of Education and the Wisconsin Character Education Partnership have recognized two State Schools of Character<\/a> for 2017.<\/p>\n

Greenwood Elementary School in River Falls and Edgewood Elementary School in Greenfield will receive their awards on June 19. The schools are now eligible for the National Schools of Character Award.<\/p>\n

The Wisconsin Character Education Partnership works with the School of Education to recognize public and private K-12 schools for innovative, successful initiatives to integrate character education into the curriculum.<\/p>\n

The partnership\u2019s mission to promote core universal ethical values such as integrity, honesty, fairness, responsibility and respect for themselves and for others through character education.<\/p>\n

In honoring Edgewood, the review committee noted the school team developed clearly-defined core values that were well-integrated throughout the school. Evidence and data showed a strong connection between students and staff, and attention to relationships and school climate. The school\u2019s high rate of staff retention reflected that attention. Edgewood\u2019s focus on diversity was also a strong component of its character education program.<\/p>\n

Greenwood, which received an honorable mention in last year\u2019s State Schools of Character awards, was recognized for its high level of involvement in planning and implementing character education as well as a wide variety of in-school activities that supported the development of character education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
