(UWM Photo\/Derek Rickert)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The book, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rethinkingschools.org\/ProdDetails.asp?ID=9780942961591\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cRethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0was <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/cosier-dealing-with-sexism-and-gender-issues-in-the-classroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published last year<\/a> by the Milwaukee-based organization Rethinking Schools. It was designed as a manual for classroom teachers to help them talk about issues of identity around gender and sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>The Stonewall Book Awards are sponsored by the American Library Association\u2019s LGBT Roundtable, and are designed to honor books for exceptional merit relating to the gay\/lesbian\/bisexual\/transgender experience.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_42483\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-42483\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-42483 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2017\/01\/rethinking-book-cover-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cRethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality\u201d was designed as a manual for classroom teachers to help them talk about issues of identity around gender and sexuality.\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-42483\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cRethinking Sexism, Gender, and Sexuality\u201d was designed as a manual for classroom teachers to help them talk about issues of identity around gender and sexuality.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cosier\u2019s book was one of four chosen for the Israel Fishman Nonfiction Award, out of an estimated 400 entries. The Stonewall Book Awards, established in 1971, also honor fiction and young adult\/children\u2019s books.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will be presented to winning authors and editors at the American Library Association\u2019s annual conference in June in Chicago. Cosier was an editor of the book, working with five other co-editors.<\/p>\n<p>Last year when the book debuted as a No. 1 pick on Amazon, Cosier said: \u201cI really was excited about working on a book that would be more accessible to the average classroom teacher.
