{"id":41461,"date":"2016-12-14T16:27:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-14T22:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=41461"},"modified":"2023-05-10T16:06:08","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T21:06:08","slug":"artseco-program-wins-national-endowment-arts-grant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/artseco-program-wins-national-endowment-arts-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"ArtsECO program wins National Endowment for the Arts grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s ArtsECO (Arts Education\/Community Ecosystem) program has received a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>ArtsECO, a partnership between the Peck School of the Arts and the School of Education, provides professional development and hands-on experiences in art, technology and digital fabrication for Milwaukee teachers.<\/p>\n<p>ArtsECO institutes are designed <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/uwm-helps-teachers-integrate-arts-ed-everywhere\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to help teachers develop new skills<\/a> and teaching approaches to help students become innovative and creative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NEA award allows ArtsECO to experiment with a collaborative approach to teaching art, technology, and art education \u2013 processes that are all integral to the Department of Art &amp; Design at Peck School of the Arts and important for 21st Century education,\u201d said Joelle Worm, ArtsECO director at UWM. \u201cThe NEA-supported Summer Institute will serve Milwaukee-area teachers, and the thousands of students that they teach, in the integration of these technologies and processes into classrooms throughout the city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NEA grant to UWM was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arts.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/fall-2016-grant-announcement-state-listing-revised.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of 10 awarded<\/a> in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s ArtsECO (Arts Education\/Community Ecosystem) program has received a $15,000 Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
