The Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has earned specialized accounting accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), an achievement earned by less than 5 percent of the world\u2019s academic business programs.<\/p>\n

AACSB accreditation is a “quality indicator,” said Paul Fischer, center, Jerry Leer Professor of Accounting, pictured with UWM accounting students Abby Bierman and Doug Bartley.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cUWM\u2019s accounting programs have been recognized for decades by employers for preparing outstanding graduates for professional careers in public accounting and business,\u201d said Dean V. Kanti Prasad. \u201cWe\u2019re delighted to have the validation of AACSB to further demonstrate the excellence of our accounting degrees.\u201d<\/p>\n

AACSB accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education. Only one-quarter of the 761 schools accredited for business globally also hold specialized accounting accreditation. In Wisconsin, UWM is now one of only three universities to hold both business and accounting accreditation. The Lubar School of Business has held AACSB business accreditation continuously for over 46 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes a great deal of self-evaluation and determination to earn both accounting and business accreditation, and I commend UW-Milwaukee for its dedication to business education, as well as its leadership in the community,\u201d said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International.<\/p>\n

The Lubar School was commended for its close working relationships with accounting firms and other employers, the motivation of its students for academic and career success, and keeping current with accounting developments, such as changes in standards and regulations.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur success is the result of a combination of two things: a rigorous academic curriculum that thoroughly prepares students for the field of accounting, and a true partnership with CPA firms and employers that keeps us connected with what the profession demands,\u201d said Paul M. Fischer, Jerry Leer Professor of Accounting and director of accounting programs. \u201cAACSB accreditation is a fantastic quality indicator for our programs, our students and our graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n

UWM\u2019s Lubar School of Business offers a BBA accounting major, MS-Accounting, MS-Professional Accounting, MS-Taxation, and an online graduate certificate program in state and local taxation.
